Job Overview:The accountant will play a critical role in supporting the financial health of the organization by accurately managing all financial records. This position involves handling day-to-day accounting functions, maintaining general ledgers, processing donations, and ensuring financial compliance with nonprofit standards. The ideal candidate will have experience working with non-profit financials and a passion for contributing to the important work we do in end-of-life care.
Key Responsibilities:Financial Recordkeeping:•Maintain accurate and up-to-date general ledger and financial records.•Process accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely and accurate transactions.•Reconcile bank and credit card statements monthly.Donation Tracking & Reporting:•Record and categorize donations, ensuring proper tracking for tax purposes.•Assist with preparing donor reports and providing receipts for donations in line with nonprofit regulations.
Payroll Support:•Process payroll and ensure accurate calculation of employee wages, taxes, and benefits.•Maintain employee records related to payroll and ensure compliance with applicable laws.
Financial Reporting & Budgeting Support:•Assist the Executive Director in preparing financial reports, budget variance reports, and year-end financial statements.•Help track and manage expenses, ensuring that spending aligns with the approved budget and grants.Compliance & Auditing:•Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal tax and financial regulations.•Assist in the preparation for annual audits by providing documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
Financial Data Entry & Documentation:•Accurately enter financial transactions into accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks).•Maintain organized and up-to-date records of all financial documentation.Other Duties as Assigned:•Support the finance team in various administrative tasks as needed.•Help with grant reporting and fund tracking.
Qualifications:Education & Experience:•Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.•2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting.•Experience with nonprofit financial software (e.g., QuickBooks) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
Knowledge & Skills:•Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and financial reporting.•Familiarity with nonprofit accounting standards (FASB, GAAP).•Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines with attention to detail.•Strong organizational and communication skills.•Knowledge of payroll and tax regulations for nonprofit organizations is a plus.
